![]() If you haven't tried FS X you are in for a treat. The graphics are fantastic! Some of the new features like; a transparent dash and being able to raise your seat are welcome improvements. I especially liked the way the trees changed color for the various seasons. In the past, a forest was a clump of trees all the same. Now a forest is made up of different types of foliage and you can see the separate leaves. Absolutely fantastic.
Now for the bad news! ... My old Athlon 3200+ with 2 gig RAM, 256 Meg Radeon X800 video on a top of the line Asus motherboard delivered less than 30 fps, not bad, but less than the 80 fps fs 2004 delivered. When I hooked up the projector I almost fell out of my chair. The projector screen looked like a photograph, yes, a very detailed STILL photograph. 8 fps! I went into the configuration and took everything to the basement, lowest setting for everything. The results, the screen had no detail and still delivered unsatisfactory frame rates. Time for a new computer. Athlon XP 6000, 2 gig DDR2 and a GeForce 8600 GTS video card and I'm back on track with 50+ frames per second with the projector. It take a while longer to load but well worth the wait. To summarize, I love FS X, but to run multiple screen on a "Dream Flyer" you will need POWER, lots of it. After using FS X, 2004 just doesn't interest me.
Well done Microsoft Check out fsinsider (link below) to see what FS X is like in more detail "Doc" fsinsider
"Flight Simulator X: Acceleration!" I've just tried the Acceleration update. It is fantastic. The air racing is a hoot and if you think your good try the carrier landing. I've been practicing for months and greased it in. This is way better than I've seen, very real.
