Richard Herring - Vernon

Richard Herring... This is a strange story. Richard heard about the Joyrider from a friend in Florida and was fascinated. A little research told him my shop was only 60 miles from his home town so he contacted me. He drove to Penticton to try it and fell in love. I seldom see anyone enjoy my products as much is Richard, He ordered one. As we talked I learned who he worked for and found his co-workers is my son-in-law.

He has mounted the projector on his ceiling and this gives lots of clearance for his noggin, but he didn't like having the LCD screen interfere so he mounted two 19" screens lower down.

It was really slick when we set the dash up to cover both screens. Richard has utilized all the fifty odd buttons on the Saitek controls for very complete control.

My first visit to Richard's was very enlightening. I was under the impression that I had the design down pat, but Richard sure opened my eyes with his modifications. I knew he was very meticulous and it didn't suprise me how he had tidied up the wiring etc, but the mechanical improvements he had made just blew me away.

I had puzzled over different ways to trim it out for different weights of pilots. I settled on slotting the plates on the gimbal pivots, Richard inserted 1" tubing inside the rails and mounted a sliding weight on them so he could easily adjust the center of gravity. I adapted his idea for all future models

He also placed one across the back for side to side trim needed because of the shelving around the rear. His mounting of a keyboard is the most ingenous arrangement anyone could imagine. He used a clip off a clipboard to hold the keyboard in place and the light was a nice touch.

He put a nylon strap under the rails to support them when he is getting in and out. I took that idea too.
